Ancient Forest Zen

Zen Practice Forms

This PDF file is a printable booklet of all the major forms practiced at Ancient Forest Zen as well as most other Soto Zen Centers in the country.  For those of you who may find it difficult to bow or prostrate during a Zen service I would like to offer a gatha, written by Katagiri Roshi that expresses the non-dualism of the practice of bowing:

Bower and what is bowed to are empty by nature.

The bodies of one's self and others are not two.

I bow with all beings to attain liberation.

To manifest the unsurpassable mind and return

to boundless truth.
